Kier awarded BCL the groundworks package to undertake all civil works at the Torbay AMU medical unit at Torbay Hospital in Devon.

The project consisted of working within a live hospital environment to deliver a new building which was split over two levels and connected to the existing hospital wards.

Working at a live hospital comes with its challenges and BCL had to overcome issue such as diversion of existing and live or historic services, working within a tight footprint and having to manage logistics utilising cranes for lifting in materials to tight courtyards.

The BCL package of works involved a cut and fill, services installations, concrete foundations and pads, drainage (including connections to existing) and external works.

 

Following on from completion of this project BCL were awarded further healthcare works with Kier demonstrating their trust in BCL to deliver complex projects on their behalf.
