BCL were appointed to undertake the full groundworks package on this project in Sidmouth where a multi phased development project was being constructed. Working within a live education setting BCL moved on to the project during the demolition phase to commence enabling works and start the foundations and drainage for the new teaching block.

 

The new facility hosts a new hall, a gym, canteen and more than 20 classrooms including new technology workshops, a music suite and a dance studio.

King post retaining walls were installed and part of BCL's scope as the site was sloping. This ensured that the new teaching block could be constructed whilst holding back the ground which was to be re-profiled as part of phase 2 works which BCL returned to site to undertake later in the year.

The project had it's challenges as can be expected when operating in a live school environment and connections to new and existing infrastructure had to be made. However, the teams worked closely to overcome such obstacles and produce a product which all can be proud of.
