BCL were appointed by Galliford Try on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to provide a new accommodation block for personnel at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM).

The new block comprises of 21, eight-bed rooms and one ten-bed room. A multi-use education/ recreation room was also required to support training and resettlement. The building will be used by both male and female recruits who are recovering from injury and going through rehabilitation programmes.

The building consists of traditional construction due to the high-level requirements for vibration and acoustics, as well as Counter Terrorism Measures.

With a restricted and tight site, as well as Covid-19 protocols to deal with, working collaboratively was key and BCL were involved in the day to day co-ordination meetings with the Royal Marines and Galliford Try.

Collaborative working between all parties was beneficial in resolving early issues caused by the discovery of numerous previously unknown services, which required removing or diverting with a heavy reliance on vacuum-excavation.

This was a successful project for BCL and Galliford Try continuing the long standing relationship that we have forged on multiple projects across the South West.
